About Company
Founded in 1984 by engineering visionary Abdel Moneim El Mikati, METCO began as a contractor focused on high-quality finishes. Moreover, during Egypt’s construction boom, the company collaborated with partners in the UK, Italy, and Germany. These early partnerships helped it quickly build a strong reputation for expert craftsmanship in ceramic and porcelain finishes.
In the late 1980s, METCO expanded its capabilities under engineer Khaled El Mikati. The company won a significant tender to supply electrical components for 2,000 housing units in Cairo. Soon after, it became the main contractor installing specialized tiles for the Olympic swimming pool at the African Games in 1990.
By the end of 1989, METCO expanded its reputation through new contracts for Egypt’s airports in Aswan, Luxor, and Hurghada. Moreover, the company delivered and installed façade tiles using premium materials imported directly from Germany.
In the 1990s, METCO ventured into natural stone products by launching Al Hassana Factory, producing marble and granite solutions. The company then played pivotal roles in landmark projects including the Alexandria Grand Library facades and marble installations for Cairo Airport’s Terminal 3.
During the 2000s, METCO expanded by partnering with Turkish and Italian firms. Moreover, it launched new ventures in high-end office fit-outs and wooden doors. In 2010, the company entered the solar energy sector through E-Green. Soon after, it introduced smart lighting and IoT-enabled LED systems via Prasino Energy. These innovations directly resulted in RGB lighting installations at Cairo’s Azhar Park and in major industrial facilities.
In 2016, METCO secured a landmark commission from the Egyptian Corps of Engineers for the Grand Egyptian Museum façade. Moreover, the project used the patented KEIL undercut system, representing a significant leap in engineering sophistication. Since then, the company has delivered high-profile projects in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital and New Alamein City.
In 2022, METCO entered its third generation of leadership and introduced an in-house design division. This strategic move enables end-to-end turnkey delivery—from design and engineering to construction execution—bringing the company full circle.
Today, METCO is expanding its vision across Africa, seeking partners to contribute to the continent’s infrastructure and construction transformation. Bringing depth in design, IoT, project management, and contracting expertise, METCO remains committed to shaping Africa’s future as a global economic hub.
