Egypt’s PM reviews plan to secure funding for summer fuel reserves

Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, held a meeting on Tuesday at the government headquarters in the New Capital.

The meeting was attended by Hassan Abdullah, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt; Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy; Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance; and Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

Mohamed El-Homsany, the official spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, said the meeting focused on plans to secure the financial resources needed to build additional fuel reserves ahead of the summer season and throughout the 2026/2027 fiscal year, in order to meet rising consumption demands during this period.

El-Homsany added that the meeting reviewed the fuel quantities required to operate power plants during the summer season. He noted that the government is proactively working to secure the necessary fuel supplies from various sources in preparation for all possible scenarios during the upcoming season.

He also explained that the plan includes securing the financial resources needed to cover these fuel quantities through coordination between the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance.
