
The East Nile Monorail welcomed its first passengers Wednesday, marking the start of operations for the first phase of Egypt’s latest green transport project.
The driverless system connects New Cairo to the New Administrative Capital (NAC), aiming to streamline commutes for employees and residents.
Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir conducted an inspection tour to monitor the start of the service, which runs daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The 16-station route includes:

• One Ninety
• Air Force Hospital
• Al-Nargis
• Investors
• Al-Lotus
• Golden Square
• Beit Al-Watan
• Al-Fattah Al-Alim Mosque
• R1 District
• R2 District
• Business District
• Arts and Culture City (Interchange with LRT)
• Government District
• Masr Mosque
• Al-Adala City
The fully electric trains feature air-conditioned cabins, LCD information screens, and CCTV.
The Ministry of Transport highlighted the project’s accessibility features, including elevators, tactile paving, and dedicated wheelchair spaces with safety locks for passengers with disabilities.
The service is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion on major axes and lower carbon emissions by providing a high-speed alternative to private cars.
