CBE dismisses reports of planned LE10,000 banknote

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has denied reports claiming the government is preparing to issue a new LE10,000 banknote, stressing that no such plans are currently under consideration.
In a statement circulated by the Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC), the central bank said it has not issued any decisions related to introducing new paper or polymer currency categories beyond the denominations already circulating in the local market.
The CBE clarified that the LE200 note remains the highest-value banknote currently in circulation in Egypt. Existing paper currency denominations range from LE1 to LE200, while polymer notes are currently limited to LE10 and LE20.
The bank added that all circulating banknotes retain full legal tender status and can be used normally in all financial transactions involving goods and services.
The IDSC also urged citizens to verify information through official channels and avoid spreading inaccurate reports that could create confusion or stir public concern.
