British energy company BP has started production from the Fayoum 4 gas well in Egypt’s West Nile Delta region, adding around 80 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day, according to a government statement.

The production start aligns with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to attract investment, accelerate field development, and boost domestic gas output. BP supported the project’s accelerated execution while maximizing the use of existing infrastructure and facilities.

The ministry said BP brought the well online approximately two years ahead of schedule, following efforts to speed up development and utilize available offshore infrastructure.

The company’s successful exploration campaign in 2025 led to the discovery of the Fayoum well, followed by development work and the connection of production to the West Nile Delta gas processing facilities.

To enhance the field’s potential, BP drilled a sidetrack well to reach new Messinian reservoir layers at depths of nearly 3,000 meters. This approach avoided the need for a separate well or new subsea infrastructure, helping reduce development time and accelerate production.

Production from Fayoum 4 was connected to the processing facilities through the Giza–Fayoum pipeline, using advanced engineering solutions to overcome technical challenges and maximize existing offshore assets.

Nader Zaki, BP’s Regional President for the Middle East and North Africa, said the project reflects BP’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s efforts to accelerate gas development, optimize infrastructure utilization, and apply advanced technologies to increase domestic natural gas production.

The West Nile Delta region includes several offshore gas fields within the North Alexandria and West Mediterranean Deepwater concessions. BP operates the West Nile Delta facilities with an 82.75% stake, while Harbour Energy holds the remaining 17.25%.
