Egypt aims to increase its trade with Indonesia to $5 billion by 2030, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said, as the two countries seek to translate growing bilateral ties into concrete economic projects.
During a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, El-Sisi said their talks “reaffirmed the shared will of our two countries to translate our historic ties and strategic partnership into tangible cooperation programs and projects.”
He added that Egypt and Indonesia would continue working together to play an effective role in supporting regional security.
Cooperation Deals Signed
El-Sisi and Prabowo witnessed the signing of several memorandums of understanding between the two countries, marking a step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The MoUs cover bilateral cooperation in maritime affairs and fisheries, statistics, strategic partnership, and visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic, official, and special passports.
The Egyptian president arrived in Jakarta on Saturday for an official visit to Indonesia, the final stop on his Asian tour, which also included South Korea and Malaysia.
El-Sisi said Egypt and Indonesia have agreed to give special priority to strengthening economic and trade cooperation in line with the significant potential of both countries.
Their talks also explored opportunities to expand joint manufacturing projects in priority sectors, with El-Sisi affirming Egypt’s commitment to encouraging Indonesian companies to increase their investments in the Egyptian market.
He highlighted Egypt’s position as a regional hub for production and exports and a strategic gateway to Arab, African, and international markets.
