South African President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum following his participation in the 8th African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting in El-Alamein.
Ramaphosa led a South African delegation on the visit.
“The engagement highlighted Egypt’s rich historical and cultural heritage and the enduring legacy of Africa as the cradle of humankind and one of the birthplaces of civilization,” the South African Presidency said in a statement.
“From the origins of humanity to the great civilisations that emerged on the continent, Africa’s history represents a profound contribution to human knowledge, culture and development.”
The visit also reflected the “strong bilateral relations between South Africa and Egypt, anchored in mutual respect, cultural heritage and a shared African identity,” the statement affirmed.
It further highlighted the shared “commitment to deepening cultural relations and knowledge-sharing in heritage preservation, archaeology and education,” the statement added.
