Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi exchanged condolences Wednesday following a deadly bus crash in Egypt’s South Sinai.

During a phone call, Abdelatty expressed the Egyptian government and people’s sincere condolences to Jordan over the bus crash that occurred earlier Wednesday on the Dahab–Nuweiba road, leaving many people dead and injured.

Abdelatty affirmed that all relevant Egyptian authorities are providing the necessary assistance and facilities to care for the injured and complete arrangements for repatriating the bodies of the Jordanian victims to Jordan.

Safadi also conveyed his condolences to the Egyptian government and people and to the families of the Egyptian victims.

He expressed his appreciation to the Egyptian government for its solidarity and cooperation during the difficult circumstances, as well as for the assistance provided in following up on the condition of the injured and repatriating the victims’ bodies.

A total of 22 people were killed and 28 others injured on Wednesday when a bus carrying Egyptians and Jordanians overturned near Al-Saada area.

The Ministry of Health reported the updated toll yesterday, saying that all those injured were transported to hospitals for medical care.

Thirteen of the injured were taken to Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital, nine to Saint Catherine Hospital and six to Al-Fayrouz Medical Complex.

Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said preliminary information indicated that several Jordanians were among those killed and injured in the crash, without specifying the number of Jordanian casualties.

The bus, operated by Egypt’s Super Jet, was traveling from Cairo to Nuweiba with Egyptian and Jordanian passengers on board.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly tasked a technical committee comprising the ministries of transport and interior, the South Sinai Governorate and the Administrative Control Authority with determining the causes of the accident.
