President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today in El-Alamein City with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Transport Lt. Gen. Eng. Kamel El-Wazir, and Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning Maj. Gen. Amir Sayed Ahmed.
Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that the meeting reviewed the implementation status of development projects at Greater Safaga Port, Damietta Port, Greater Alexandria Port, and Ain Sokhna Port. President El-Sisi directed that all projects be completed within their designated timelines while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
The meeting also reviewed efforts to develop Egypt’s transport network to support intra-regional trade, enhance the efficiency of maritime and land connectivity, and facilitate the movement of people and goods, thereby reinforcing Egypt’s position as a regional trade hub. In this context, President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of accelerating logistics and transport projects to strengthen trade and economic integration, particularly with Arab and African countries.
The discussions also covered the latest developments in the implementation of the High-Speed Electric Rail Network, the East and West Nile Monorail projects, and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system on the Ring Road. The Minister of Transport announced that trial operations for the first line of the High-Speed Electric Rail Network (Ain Sokhna–El Alamein–Marsa Matrouh) are scheduled to begin in September 2026 and continue for six months.
The Minister also reviewed the implementation status and economic feasibility of the network’s second and third lines, highlighting their role in connecting newly developed agricultural areas with consumption centers and export ports, linking major tourist destinations, supporting population redistribution, and creating new development corridors.
Regarding the East and West Nile Monorail projects, the Minister explained that, once operational, the East Nile Monorail will significantly reduce travel time between Greater Cairo, New Cairo, and the New Administrative Capital while providing a modern, safe, and efficient transportation service in line with the highest international standards.
As for the West Nile Monorail, which extends 43.8 kilometers from 6th of October City to Wadi El-Nile Station in Mohandessin and includes 13 stations, the Minister stated that operations are scheduled to commence in 2027. He added that the second phase of the BRT project is ready for operation and will serve some of the country’s most densely populated areas.
President El-Sisi directed that all sustainable green mass transit projects be completed as swiftly as possible, underscoring their vital role in supporting urban, industrial, and tourism development.
The meeting additionally reviewed plans for the maintenance and upgrading of roads and bridges nationwide. Lt. Gen. Eng. Kamel El-Wazir presented updates on the Upper Egypt Western Desert Road (Giza–Abu Simbel) and the dual carriageway project for the Aswan–Berenice Road, which extends 327 kilometers and connects the governorates of Upper Egypt with the Red Sea coast and the development corridors of the Salloum Plateau. The Minister noted that the project is one of the State’s key strategic east-west corridors, linking the Nile Valley with border crossings and Red Sea ports.
The Minister further reviewed measures to address traffic congestion on the 6th of October Bridge through a comprehensive maintenance program aimed at improving traffic flow and upgrading the bridge’s structural components following the identification of deterioration in pavement layers and expansion joints in several sections.
Concluding the meeting, President El-Sisi reiterated the importance of completing all the reviewed projects according to their scheduled timelines, while ensuring the highest quality standards and the shortest possible implementation period.
