The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) announced that it activated its emergency protocols following a 5.6-magnitude earthquake felt across several governorates early Monday morning.

In its initial statement released at 3:20 AM, shortly after the tremor struck, the organization raised its readiness level, activated its operations center, and began coordinating with response teams and local authorities.

By 7 AM, the operations center had logged numerous calls from citizens seeking updates and reporting localized damage.

In Suez Governorate, teams responded to a report of a collapsed residential balcony. Upon inspection, responders confirmed there were no injuries.

In Rod El-Farag, Cairo, the ERC units inspected a reported partial building collapse, confirming that no casualties occurred.

Field teams are continuing to inspect areas where incidents were reported. The ERC confirmed that its operations center has not received any reports of injuries or fatalities linked to the earthquake, and round-the-clock surveillance remains ongoing.

The organization reaffirmed its full readiness to handle further developments and urged citizens to rely exclusively on official news sources. Emergencies can be reported to the ERC hotline at 15322.

Cairo Governorate declares high alert

Separately, the Cairo Governorate confirmed that no major losses or structural damage were reported across the capital following the 3 AM earthquake.

According to data recorded by the National Seismic Network, operated by the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, the 5.6-magnitude tremor was felt across Cairo and several neighboring governorates.

Immediately following the quake, executive agencies across the capital were placed on high alert. The National Emergency and Public Safety Network Control Center in Cairo established direct lines with all municipal districts, utility police, and civil defense units to monitor the situation and ensure public safety.
