Egypt condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners in a Monday statement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the Monday move as a “dangerous and unprecedented escalation” and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.
The statement noted that the legislation undermines the fundamental guarantees of a fair trial.
Egypt emphasized that the “void legislation” entrenches a systematic discriminatory approach and reinforces an apartheid system by differentiating in its application between Palestinians and others. This violates the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories, where Israeli legislation should not apply to Palestinian citizens in the West Bank.
Cairo has repeatedly warned against ignoring grave Israeli violations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip amid current regional military escalations.
The statement reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of unilateral Israeli policies and called on the international community to take firm, immediate positions to protect the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.
